HP "Digital Voltage Source" (DVS)

Shown on the left are a pair of HP6130C power supplies and an HP6129C.  The HP6130C's are capable of + or - 50 V at 1 amp.  The HP6129C will supply + or - 50 V at up to 6 amps.

The supplies are programmed using BCD over a 15 bit data line.  Also on the data line are signals for polarity, current limit, external or internal voltage reference.  The cable and connections are via a standard 50 connector SCSI cable.  The original programmer is unbelievable difficult to find, but I have written code using a PIC microcontroller which replicates the functions of the "Pocket Programmer" (you needed size 46 pants pockets)  originally supplied with the unit.

The HP DVS units are really voltage amplifiers.  The units are quite conservatively rated and manufacturing quality is typical top-notch 1970's HP.

The "pocket programmer" is shown to the left.

To the left is a Kepco High Voltage supply capable of 2kV and 100 mA.  This is a vacuum tube regulated supply, the tubes being proprietary and very difficult to find or replace.  I was able to purchase the unit for scrap value since two of the tubes were broken (they can be replaced with 4CX150 or 4CX250  if you want to go through the bother of replacing the sockets, or high voltage MOSFETs can also be used.) These supplies were used in the defense and aerospace industries.

This example is a Systron Donner "Trygon" supply with two outputs, 16 V at 55 amps and 19 V at 15 amps.

A fluke "Constant Current/Constant Voltage" Lab voltage standard.

heath_ps.jpg (70944 bytes)

A pair of Heathkit power supplies.  The high voltage regulated supply uses a 6L6G as the control element with a gas regulator tube and tube error amplifier.  It's an "ok" HV supply, but the C- voltage will wander around as the load on the HT changes.

The Heathkit low voltage regulated supply will provide up to 50 volts at 1 amp.

Sorensen 48 Volt Regulated Switcher -- it's a pretty early switcher design -- there's no ZIP Code on the address.  This is a surprisingly quiet switcher.

Kepco 615B "Beast" of a Vacuum Tube Power Supply -- uses 3 6550's as regulator tubes, variac to control the B+ Voltage -- 0 -600 VDC B+, 0- 300 milliamps.

An analogue voltage reference from EDC.  The unit was purchased from Raytheon.
